Publish Custom Test

Publishing a custom test is useful if you want other users to be able to run your tests. This can either be done by an agent application or a web page.

First of all click the Publish Custom Test link as shown below.

Fig 1: Publish Custom Test

Click the Publish Custom Test button, as shown above, will take you to the screen below:

How should users run your test?
Fig2: How should users run your test?

The two options are:

Agent Application: Users download and run a connection test application; the application can be run once and shut down, or run regular tests. Results are posted back to Myconnection Server without being shown to the user. More Information.

Web Page: Users visit a web page with a connection test embedded in it. The page reports results back to the user interactively. More information.

As an agent application

Once the agent application option has been chosen (as in fig 2 above) a similar to the one below will present it self.

This page is where you can choose which tests you want the agent to perform when the user downloads and runs it. You can either choose from the pre defined tests (1) that come as standard with MyConnection Server or you can choose one of the custom tests (2) you have created.

Choose test for agent application

Once the test has been chosen you can set the options that dictate how the agent will act on the users computer.

Agent Settings

There are two options (both are selected in the image above to show both sets of options in full, this can't actually be done):

Continuously perform connection tests are regualr intervals - This option runs the test(s), separated by a pause, for as long as the application is running. The pause between tests can be set in minutes. There is also an option to resume testing after reboot which would install the agent as a windows service, which runs in the background and is started when the computer boots up.

Run test a number of times, then stop - This option runs a set number of tests, then either shuts down or waits for further instructions.

When you have chosen the option you want and amended the settings click the submit button. The publish page options will appear, as shown below:

Publish page options

This page is set into three sections, Page URL, Publish name and results tag.

Page URL - Choose whether MyConnection Server should serve the page or a third party web server should.

If you want MyConnection Server to serve the page then simply enter a name for the created page. The user can then be sent an email with a link to this page and can download the agent from there. You can also download the agent yourself from this page and send it to the user in an email or CD etc.

If you want to run the page from a third party server then you will be taken to a download page where a zip file can be downloaded containing an HTML page that can be published on another web site.

Publish name - The publish name will be used throughout MyConnection Server to refer to this agent. So enter something that makes it easily identifiable.

Results tag - If you are going to direct the user to a download page then you can ask the user to provide their own information, which will be usd to tag all their results. You can also either choose to set a universal tag name that will be used by anyone that downloads and runs the agent or you can opt to have the client's machine name as the tag.

Web Page

Once the web page option has been chosen (as in fig 2 above) a similar to the one below will present it self.

This page is where you can choose which tests you want the applet to perform when the user visits the web page. You can either choose from the pre defined tests (1) that come as standard with MyConnection Server or you can choose one of the custom tests (2) you have created.

Choose test for agent application

Once the test has been chosen you can set the options that dictate how the page will look, using some custom web page templates.

Choose web page template

Once a template has been chosen you can then choose from various templates to do with each individual test, the example below shows options for a MySpeed test:

There is also an option to use a separatley created configuration file (click here for how to manually create an applet configuration file).

Once you have chosed the template/applet configuration file you want to use for the web page the following publish settings will appear:

This page is set into two sections, Page URL and Publish name

Page URL - Choose whether MyConnection Server should serve the page or a third party web server should.

If you want MyConnection Server to serve the page then simply enter a name for the created page. The user can then be sent an email with a link to this page and run the test from there.

If you want to run the page from a third party server then you will be taken to a download page where a zip file can be downloaded containing an HTML page that can be published on another web site.

Publish name - The publish name will be used throughout MyConnection Server to refer to this page. So enter something that makes it easily identifiable.
