Publish a Test

Sub section menu:

The Publish a New Test wizard is used to make a test/custom test available for use. Either privately or publically.

Tests are either web based or remote agent based.

To publish a new test CLICK THE PUBLISH A NEW TEST link in the TOOLS section of the main MCS menu.

How To Run The Test

As an Agent Applicaiton: This method would involve downloading an application (remote agent (RA)) for distribution to another computer. When run the agent will connect back to MCS, perform the test(s) workload and then post results to MCS.

On a Web Page: To serve a web page containing a test applet choose this option. The web page can either be served by MCS itself or posted on a third part web server.

Run the test as an Agent Application

The first step is to choose which test the agent should run.

This can either be a predefined test or a custom test.

RA: Running Mode

The running mode defines how the agent will react when installed.

CONTINUOUSLY: To run tests at specific intervals for an indefinite time period choose this option.

At any time the user or the MCS admin can stop the testing. If the MCS admin deletes the remote agent it will automatically remove itself when it tries to connect back.

DEFINED TESTING: To run a defined number of tests choose this option.

This option is flexible in that the agent can be told to either uninstall or shut down upon completetion of the initial workload. The agent "calls home" to MCS every minute and will start a new workload as soon as one is created.

RA: Publish Options

The next stage in creating a remote agent is to name it, set the download requirements and choose how the results will be tagged.

NAME: This is the name of the remote agent itself. This will be how it is referred to throughout MyConnection Server.

DOWNLOAD URL: There are two options here.

The first is to let MCS serve the download page. Enter a suitable page name in the text box. It's also possible to make this newly created page the home page for MCS. This is achieved by checking the ADD A REDIRECT box.

The second option is to host a page on a third party web site. This option will provide the user with a zip file containing all the files required.

RESULTS TAG: The three options are to tag all results with the clients machine name, ask the user to enter a tag or set a hard coded tag, which all tests from this agent will have.

Click SUBMIT to confirm the settings.

RA: Download

The example on the right shows how the download page will look if MCS is serving the page.

If the option to host the page on a third party web site was chosen the page will allow the user to download a folder containing the required files.

Run the test on a web page

The first step is to choose which test the web page should run.

This can either be a predefined test or a custom test.

Web: Customization Options

There are a few standard customization options for a few of the tests. The example on the right shows speed test options.

Examples include autostart, smaller applet, larger applet etc.

Simply choose the one required. Choose BASIC WEB PAGE for no custom options.

Web: Publish Options
