Running an Android NetQCheck Agent

Step 1

NOTE: The Agent requires a valid WiFi Connection.

When the "iNQC Agent" app is first run the screen will look similar to the image on the right.

Before the app will allow you to start, it requires an installation of MyConnection Server (MCS) to be specified. To do this click on the top row (MCS Status:).

A screen similar to that of the second image will appear. Simply enter the MCS URL / IP (For example mcs.example.com or mcs.example.com:81 if a port other than 80 is required) and press the "Save" button. Then use the devices back button to return to the main screen.

Note: The installation has to be accessible to the user or the user has to know someone with access. That agent has to be permitted and this requires log in privileges.

Step 2

Start the app by clicking the "Stopped" button. This will turn to "Running" and the app will begin initiating.

The first thing to point out is the AGENT STATUS IS AUTHORISING. This means it's awaiting permission to connect to MCS.

The second thing to point out is the Web server IP and Port. The app automatically selects the IP address being used by the mobile device and uses port 8080 (this can be changed by pressing the port row).

Step 3

The bottom row of the home screen is SET AGENT NAME. This allows the user to set a unique name that makes the agent easily identifable at the server end. Especially useful if numerous agents are all connection to the same MCS server.

Setting a unique name is simply a case of typing a name and clicking SAVE.

Now, when the agent appears in the device list, this name should make for easy identification.

Step 4

Permitting the Agent in MCS.

The Agent will appear in the Access Series section, under connected devices.

From the MCS main menu it can be found in the ADMINISTRATION section under ACCESS SERIES.

The agent will appear using the Unique name and the ID number. At the end of the row there will be three links, the first of which is PERMIT. Click this to permit the Agent.

A pop up will appear regarding groups and remote agents. This can be closed, adding a workload to the Agent is covered in Step 5.

The AUTHORISING should now update itself to AUTHGRANTED, which confirms it has been given permission to connect to MCS.

Step 5

Adding a workload.

The workload is what defines the tests and agent will undertake.

To add a workload just check the box next to the Agent and the select a Remote Agent (RA) from the list.

Learn how to create and RA here.

Once assigned the Agent will begin performing the tests specified and the results will appear in the MCS database.
